Modern society drives us to achieve more and more: more money, more stuff, more attention. We tend to forget that the true pleasure and happiness lie in the genuine connection to ourselves, to our own bodies, our own souls. Distracted by the outside stimulus we rarely hear the soft and quiet voice of our hearts.
In Belly Dancing we have the same tendency.
Dance that was initially created to be practised in the most mysterious and intimate moments of human life – pregnancy and birth – is now performed to please the audience. Dancers are more concerned about how it looks rather than how it feels.
Please don't get me wrong. I don't mean that Belly Dancing as a performing art should not exist. Performances are inspiring and joyful part of dancing. They motivate dancers to grow and explore various ways of self-expression. However, we shouldn't forget the tremendous healing potential of this ancient dance. The restorative process begins when you draw your awareness inside the body and set an intention for healing . Making absolutely the same movements: circles, 8s, undulations, with the intention to heal and balance yourself, you can reach deepest connection with your inner source and activate the ability of the body to heal itself.
What are we healing? It is both physical and psychological traumas that our body store in the pelvic area. The centre of movement in Belly Dancing is the belly. All the shaking, circling, stretching, contracting, and relaxing actions in this part of the body releases memories of the collective feminine. These are gender issues blocked inside out the body/soul system that we have got in this life or inherited in DNA. The disbalance in the gender sphere manifests itself in the issues in reproductive system, and sexual or social relationships.
Belly dancing movements remove the blockages in the pelvic area and balances woman's life. Not coincidentally, many women experienced a shift in their relationships or the abolition of reproductive organs disease since they started practising belly dancing.
Periodically, I offer the Healing Belly Dancing Class. In this class we focus the healing aspect of Belly Dancing. Performing basic belly dancing movement the students are encouraged to pay genuine attention to what is going on inside of the body, and how the movements actually influence the body and the soul. Specially designed exercises lead the participants to better understanding of the process of healing, connection to their feminine essence and revealing their inner beauty. This class is recommended for everyone who wants to go deeper than a fitness aspect of the dance:
